Should I use POP3 or IMAP in my email client?

Each client need differs, however, we generally recommend using the IMAP protocol.

  • Nowadays, most of the email clients support both IMAP and POP to access emails from the email server. ITSC email servers support both IMAP and POP protocol. Users can have the choice to choose which type of access is more suitable for their use.
  •

  • In short, POP can be regarded as an older way to access emails from the email server. It mainly allows users to download email messages onto their local machine but users cannot organize their emails into different mail folders on the mail server.
  •

  • IMAP is more superior than POP. Those features available on POP should also be found on IMAP. Users can have the choice to store or organize emails on the mail server, or download their messages onto their local machine too.
  •

  • For those users who will read emails from different computers, like in office or at home, using IMAP to access their emails definitely is a much better way than POP. Their emails can be stored and organized on the mail server and they can easily access them from any computers.
